Dez Kirkup

Dance and Electronic Genres

Dez picked up his first synthesizer at the age of 18 and it was not long before he delved head on in to various electronic genres. His first commercial efforts in dance music were under the pseudonym ‘Slavedriver’, and under this guise he managed to break on to the club scene with the storming single ‘Miss Jasmine’. Since then Slavedriver tracks have played across the world, hitting the dancefloors hard in popular electro sets.

With more exposure as a producer, opportunities for remixing have been forthcoming, and he has now remixed for labels including Ministry of Sound among others. His first remix effort is his version of ‘Infatuation’ by New York band Aluminum Babe, and is out this year on Lucero records.

More recently Dez has been experimenting in other electronic genres, particularly more ambient styles. He is now seeking to write tracks that are subtle, but emotionally deep, bringing to the table new influences and techniques he has learned in his other fields. Now operating under the pseudonym ‘Idiom’ for these styles, you can hear a first effort of the same name in the player below.
