Profile
Dez Kirkup is an accomplished up and coming film composer who although
having crossed in to many different genres, time and time again he has
proven a talent for grasping the heartstrings with pieces that harness
our strongest feelings. He is graduate of the Academy of Contemporary
Music, passing with distinction only months before his first film project.
Films he has worked on have won awards at world festivals and made regular
appearances on TV. With a distinct sound which focuses on the intimacy
of solo instruments and the diversity of various genres from around
the world, his music fits so many different characters, settings and
stories, enhancing the depth of films and subsequently pulling the audience
in deeper.

Dez is currently hard at work on a new film by Same Moon productions entitled 'Long and Winding'. It's a romantic road movie shot on location in America and due to be released sometime this summer. In the meantime, a more ambient demo track called 'Haunted', written for the film but not destined to make the final cut, has just been added to the site's mp3 player. Enjoy!

There is a new track in the mp3 player! "Wasteland" is from an upcoming documentary I am working on, which explores the lives of various refugees from the Darfur region of Sudan, who have fled their homes and the troubles that surrounded them to settle in Israel. The film explores the various cultures that come together in the Darfuri communities of Tel Aviv. I hope to bring you more news on the completion of the documentary soon!

I've been upgrading my video player the past couple of days and so you may have experienced some problems playing the footage. All seems to be resolved now, but email me if you have any trouble! In other news Dez has been confirmed as composer for a new documentary, more details to follow.

The new video showreel has just gone online, featuring clips
from "On Friendship and Fidelity", "A Headline Romance"
and "Don't Look At Me (I'm Ugly in the Morning)". It's a slightly
longer video, hence the filesize is larger, so
if you have any problems streaming it! Hope you enjoy the new footage!

Big site update today! I'd like to introduce my new Mp3 player
which showcases some of my latest material from my upcoming films, as
well as some material that has never had the opportunity to accompany
the moving image, but certainly sounds like it should! The video showreel
is also accessible now through this, which in turn should be updated
in the next couple of months.

Dez is currently wrapping up the scores to two films. Firstly
there is the feature film 'Don't Look At Me (I'm Ugly In the Morning)',
a superbly dark but emotional drama and Dez's first feature length production.
The film follows the lives of 3 siblings as they cope with the aftermath
of their father's death and features Irish stand-up comic Ed
Byrne. Secondly there is the romantic
short "On Friendship and Fidelity", a beautifully shot piece
exploring the boundaries between friendship and romance
as the characters question their lives and morality. Both films feature
Dez playing to his strengths, with intimate use of piano, guitar and
solo strings, through to electronic ambiences and dark sound design
pieces.

The Headline Romance premier was a great evening with a really good
turnout, ranging from friends and family through to established professionals.
There was much talk of future projects and the bonds I've made with
the crew throughout the production I feel are going to stick for quite
some time!
